Problems with VTEC engaging

A friend of mine has a LS/vtec, that will not engage vtec. The block has a GSR crank, gsr rods, and ctr pistons. the oil pump is from a gsr as well. He is using a 91' B16 cylinder head. His ECU is obd0 pr3.

We went through and re-did his vtec wiring, and the rest of his harness is brand new from the dealer. The vtec wiring is wired correctly, and their are no breaks in the lines. This has been triple checked.

We just hooked up a oil pressure gauge today, to monitor oil pressure. At idle it sits between 20-30 psi. Under full throttle, it rises to 75-80 psi, and roughly between 5k-6k the oil pressure drops to 65 psi. Is this common when vtec engages? You can not hear a audible crossover during the time that the oil psi drops. So I am not sure what is causing this.

We checked to make sure all the cam caps were installed correctly, and that the dowel pin, and o ring was in the center cam cap. All of which is done correctly.

Any ideas on what else to check?

Thanks in advance.

I would have to agree her. The problem you explained does sound to be the pressure switch malfuntioning, though the proper way to know is to check. If you don't have the procedure I will get it for you today.
